How much does Car Insurance cost?
Auto insurance premiums are regulated by the Illinois Department of Insurance. Each policy is unique, and companies are allowed to charge premiums and award discounts based on a variety of factors which can include but are not limited to:
• Make, model and age of the car being insured
Driver’s Age / Gender,
Driver’s Previous driving Record
• Vehicle Usage / Miles driven
• Location of the car and policy holder being insured
• If the car being insured is for business or personal use
Coverage limits and deductibles
What is a Personal Auto Insurance policy?
Personal Auto Insurance policies provide financial protection to the insured if they are involved in an accident. They can protect the insured in the event of a lawsuit. They are a defined contract between you and the insurance company that outlines the policy coverages that the company pays on your behalf when an accident happens. For Example, Bodily Injury liability and Property Damage liability pay for damages you cause damage or injuries to others and their property.
Medical Payments pays the insured or occupants of your car for Medical Expenses caused from an accident.
You can collect from you own insurance for bodily injury sustained in an accident if the other vehicle’s driver is at fault and has no insurance or lower Bodily Injury limits from your policy’s Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury and Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage.
Other Than Collision: Pays for covered repairs to your car for losses such as Fire, Theft, Vandalism and Hail to name a few. Normally the insurance will pay the lesser of cost to repair or the Actual Cash Value (ACV) of your, car less your deductible. If the damage exceeds the ACV; your car is considered a total loss
Collision: Pays for covered repairs to your car for losses from a collision. Normally the insurance will pay the lesser of cost to repair or the Actual Cash Value (ACV) of your, car less your deductible. If the damage exceeds the ACV; your car is considered a total loss
Roadside Assistance / Towing: pays to tow the disable car to nearest place for repairs up to the limits.
Rental Reimbursement: pays for a temporary replacement vehicle in the event of a covered cause of loss.
Why Do I Need Personal Auto Insurance?
Illinois law requires all drivers carry their insurance card in their vehicle and show it to law enforcement upon request. If don’t have Auto Insurance you will be subject to penalties such as fines, negative points on your license, suspension and potentially community service. You can also be held liable for actual damages, economic damages, and emotional and physical pain and suffering.
The state minimum liability requirements are:
Bodily Injury: $25,000 each person / $50,000 each accident
Property Damage: $20,000 each accident
We highly recommend you carry higher liability limits and consider a Personal Umbrella policy for more protection.
